Migliaccio & Rathod LLP is currently investigating Atlantic General Hospital, based in Maryland, for an apparent failure to protect patient data in a ransomware breach. During the last week of January, Atlantic General Hospital suffered a severe ransomware attack, leading to outages and possible exfiltration of patient data. The attack happened recently, so the hospital may not yet have notified potential victims.
The cybercriminals responsible for the breach may have already obtained and sold the compromised patient information. In previous data breaches, victims of data theft have noticed identity theft attempts ranging from fraudulent charges on bank accounts or credit cards, medical and/or government services ordered in their name, or their information being posted on the dark web.
