Migliaccio & Rathod LLP is investigating Royal Caribbean over concerns that passengers may have been misled about whether automatically applied gratuity charges were mandatory or optional.
Royal Caribbean automatically adds daily gratuities to the accounts of passengers who do not prepay them. Additional gratuities may also apply to beverages, specialty dining, and certain onboard services.
Under Royal Caribbean’s published policies, certain gratuities may be adjusted or removed before disembarkation. However, passengers may not have understood that these charges were optional.
Migliaccio & Rathod LLP is investigating whether earlier booking disclosures adequately informed passengers about the optional nature of certain gratuity charges.
Consumers May Have Experienced:
- Paying gratuities they believed were mandatory;
- Unexpected additional charges during booking or onboard;
- Paying gratuities without understanding they could be adjusted or removed;
- Confusion about the total cost of their cruise.
Potential Claims May Include:
- Consumer protection law violations;
- False or misleading advertising;
- Fraudulent misrepresentation or omission;
- Unjust enrichment;
- Breach of contract.

- You booked a Royal Caribbean cruise and paid automatically applied gratuities;
- You believed the gratuity charges were mandatory;
- You were not informed that certain gratuities could be adjusted or removed;
