Migliaccio & Rathod LLP is investigating a potential fire hazard involving ThermaHeat water-tank heating pads installed in certain Winnebago motorhomes, including View, Navion, Travato, Minnie Winnie, and Spirit models.
Approximately 3,005 motorhomes were initially identified as potentially affected. The problem involves heating pads installed on vehicle water tanks that may overheat and create a risk of fire.
Winnebago reported seven potentially related claims, including two involving property damage, and changed to a different brand of heating pad.
Water-tank heating pads are intended to help protect an RV’s water system from freezing in cold temperatures. Owners reasonably expect these components to operate safely when used as intended. Migliaccio & Rathod is investigating whether affected heating pads have overheated, melted, burned surrounding materials, produced smoke or burning odors, or caused other damage to Winnebago motorhomes.
Owners May Have Experienced:
- A water-tank heating pad overheating;
- A burning or electrical odor coming from underneath the motorhome;
- Melted, scorched, or discolored material near a water tank;
- Smoke or fire associated with the heating-pad system;
- Damage to wiring, tanks, insulation, or surrounding RV components; or
- Being told that a ThermaHeat heating pad needs to be removed or replaced.
Potential Claims May Include:
- Defective design or manufacturing;
- Failure to adequately warn owners of a fire hazard;
- Breach of express or implied warranties;
- Property damage;
- Loss of use or diminished value; and
- Violations of applicable consumer-protection laws.
Signs You May Be Affected:
- You own or lease an affected Winnebago View, Navion, Travato, Minnie Winnie, or Spirit;
- Your motorhome has ThermaHeat water-tank heating pads;
- You noticed excessive heat, a burning smell, smoke, or melted material near a water tank;
- Your heating pad or related wiring required replacement;
- Your RV suffered heat or fire damage; or
- Your motorhome is included in the applicable recall.
