Migliaccio & Rathod LLP is investigating whether consumers who purchased Chosen Foods mayonnaise, salad dressings, and other processed foods marketed as made with avocado oil received products whose oil composition was inconsistent with authentic avocado oil.
Chosen Foods prominently emphasizes avocado-oil purity in its marketing and states that it tests every batch of its bottled avocado oil, including fatty-acid-profile testing designed to verify purity. Chosen Foods also highlights an earlier UC Davis study in which its bottled avocado oil was one of the brands found to be pure and nonoxidized.
The newer 2026 UC Davis study, however, examined processed foods rather than standalone bottles of avocado oil. Researchers found widespread failures among mayonnaise and salad-dressing products labeled with avocado oil as the only oil ingredient. Public discussion of the study’s product-level results identifies Chosen Foods mayonnaise and dressings among products that reportedly failed the avocado-oil authenticity criteria.
This investigation is therefore limited to Chosen Foods processed foods such as mayonnaise and salad dressings and does not allege that Chosen Foods bottled avocado oil is adulterated. The distinction matters because the earlier UC Davis testing supported the purity of Chosen Foods bottled oil, while the newer study raises separate questions about the oil used in certain finished food products.
Why Consumers May Have Been Misled
Consumers purchasing Chosen Foods mayonnaise and salad dressings may reasonably understand claims such as “made with 100% pure avocado oil” or an ingredient list naming avocado oil as the only oil to mean that the oil actually used in the finished product is authentic avocado oil.
If laboratory testing shows that certain processed products contained oils inconsistent with authentic avocado oil, consumers may have paid a premium based upon an ingredient representation that did not accurately describe the product.
We Are Interested in Hearing From Consumers Who:
- purchased Chosen Foods avocado-oil mayonnaise or salad dressing;
- relied on avocado oil being listed as the only oil ingredient;
- paid a premium because of the product’s avocado-oil positioning;
- specifically sought to avoid soybean, canola, sunflower, or other oils;
- purchased the product during 2025 or 2026;
- still possess receipts, packaging, photographs, or online purchase records; or
- would have paid less—or not purchased the product—had they known the oil might not be authentic avocado oil.
