Migliaccio & Rathod LLP is investigating whether consumers who purchased Primal Kitchen mayonnaise, salad dressings, and other products marketed as made with avocado oil received products whose oil composition was inconsistent with authentic avocado oil.
A July 2026 UC Davis study tested 54 processed foods that listed avocado oil as their only oil ingredient and found that 48 of 54 products—89%—had oil profiles inconsistent with authentic avocado oil. The researchers reported failures across 93% of chips, 71% of mayonnaise products, and 100% of salad dressings tested. UC Davis emphasized that brands may not know their suppliers provided adulterated oil, but also noted that manufacturers could do more to verify the authenticity of the ingredients they purchase.
Public discussion of the study’s product-level chart specifically identifies Primal Kitchen mayonnaise and certain dressings among tested products that did not meet the researchers’ avocado-oil authenticity criteria, while some other Primal Kitchen dressings reportedly passed. Because the results appear to vary by product and possibly by batch, this investigation should focus on the specific Primal Kitchen products and lots implicated by testing rather than assume that every product sold by the brand is affected.
Consumers may choose Primal Kitchen products specifically because they are marketed around avocado oil and positioned as alternatives to foods made with conventional vegetable oils. If a product lists avocado oil as its only oil ingredient but contains a materially different oil composition, consumers may have paid a premium for a product that was not what its labeling suggested.
We Are Interested in Hearing From Consumers Who:
- purchased Primal Kitchen mayonnaise, salad dressing, or another product marketed as made with avocado oil;
- relied on avocado oil being listed as the only oil ingredient;
- specifically purchased the product to avoid other vegetable or seed oils;
- paid a premium compared with conventional mayonnaise or salad dressing;
- purchased the product repeatedly during 2025 or 2026;
- still possess receipts, packaging, photographs, or online order records; or
- would have paid less—or not purchased the product—had they known the oil might not be authentic avocado oil.
If you purchased Primal Kitchen products marketed as made with avocado oil and believe you did not receive what the product’s labeling promised, we would like to hear from you.
