Migliaccio & Rathod LLP is involved in the Affiliated Dermatologists & Dermatologic Surgeons P.A. (“Affiliated Dermatologists”) data breach investigation, for a data breach affecting 373,379 individuals and their personal information.
On March 5, 2024, Affiliated Dermatologists learned that an unauthorized third-party had not only gained access to its network, but the hacker also left a ransom note behind. A subsequent investigation into the incident uncovered that the cybercriminal had unfettered access to Affiliated Dermatologists’ systems from March 2, 2024 to March 5, 2024. During this time, the unauthorized actor copied and stole the personally identifiable information of Affiliated Dermatologists’ patients and employees.
The compromised information includes, but may not be limited to, the following:
- full names
- dates of birth
- mailing addresses
- Social Security numbers
- medical treatment information
- health insurance claims information
- driver’s license numbers
Affiliated Dermatologists & Dermatologic Surgeons P.A. recently began informing individuals of these breaches through a mailed notice letter. All of the information stolen is likely valuable and dangerous to affected victims. In previous data breaches, victims of data theft have noticed identity theft attempts ranging from fraudulent charges on bank accounts or credit cards, to unauthorized credit card applications, to medical services or government services ordered in their name, to their information being posted on the dark web, to a massive uptick in the number of spam text messages, calls and emails received.
