MCNA Dental Data Breach Investigation

Migliaccio & Rathod is investigating Managed Care of North America, Inc. (MCNA) Dental, for a data breach of almost 9 million of its patients’ personal information.  In February-March 2023, an unauthorized third party breached MCNA’s computer system, stealing patients’ personal information from the company.  This information may include an individual’s name, address, date of birth, Social Security number, diagnosis/condition, health insurance information, driver’s license number, and credit or debit card information.

MCNA recently informed patients of this breach through a notification letter.

All of the information stolen is likely valuable and dangerous. In previous data breaches, victims of data theft have noticed identity theft attempts ranging from fraudulent charges on bank accounts or credit cards, to medical services or government services ordered in their name, to their information being posted on the dark web.

MCNA Dental Data Breach Letter

Here is a snippet from MCNA Dental’s data breach notification letter:

“We are writing to inform you of a data security incident that occurred at MCNA Insurance Company (“MCNA”) (“we” or “MCNA”) that may have involved your personal information as a current or former provider of dental/orthodontic care to members of certain state Medicaid and Children’s Health Insurance Programs, for which MCNA provides dental benefits and services.

What happened?
On March 6, 2023, MCNA became aware that an unauthorized party was able to access certain MCNA systems. Upon discovery the same day, MCNA took immediate steps to contain the threat and engaged a third-party forensic firm to investigate the incident and assist with remediation efforts. MCNA subsequently discovered that certain systems within the network may have been infected with malicious code. Through its investigation, MCNA determined that an unauthorized third party was able to access certain systems and remove copies of some personal information between February 26, 2023 and March 7, 2023.”
