Acer Aspire 3 Laptops Endemic Overheating Defect

Migliaccio & Rathod LLP is currently investigating Acer over allegations that their Aspire 3 laptops suffer from an endemic overheating defect that causes them to fail to perform as advertised. Specifically, consumers report that the Aspire 3 gets extremely hot and, simultaneously, slows down or crashes. This is known as “thermal throttling” and it cools a laptop at the cost of severely reducing its performance. Laptop retailers often fail to include adequate heat management systems in their products and, as a result, many laptops primarily rely on thermal throttling to control temperatures even though it severely impacts the owner experience. Signs of a defective heat management system include excessive heat and loud fans coupled with screen freezing, reduced responsiveness, lag, sudden blue screen appearance, and/or restarting or shutting down completely. Aspire 3 owners express disappointment that their laptops, which were marketed as capable of handling anything from gaming to business tasks, often overheat and run slowly during normal use.

This unpredictable—yet persistent—overheating defect reduces functionality and causes software failures that put owners at risk of losing unsaved work or corrupting files. Over the long term, battery life can suffer due to increased power use. Additionally, high heat conditions can cause lithium-ion batteries and other important hardware to degrade. User complaints and posts online suggest do-it-yourself fixes that ultimately fail to address the root of the defect—an inadequate heat management system. Acer has failed to take any adequate action to offer solution to its customers dealing with the Aspire 3 laptops’ endemic overheating defect.
