Migliaccio & Rathod LLP is involved in the CCM Health (“CCM”) data breach investigation, for a data breach affecting 29,182 individuals and their personal information.
On February 12, 2024, CCM learned that its computer network had fallen victim to a cyberattack. After launching an investigation, CHM discovered that an unauthorized party accessed and potentially removed its patients’ personal and health information from April 3, 2023, to April 10, 2023. The compromised information includes names, dates of birth, Social Security numbers, medical information and health insurance information. Additionally, CCM states that if medical information was stolen, then the hacker may have acquired medical record numbers, patient account numbers, prescription information, healthcare provider names, medical diagnoses, diagnosis codes, treatment types, treatment locations, treatment dates, admission dates, discharge dates, and/or lab results.
CCM recently began informing individuals of this breach through a mailed notice letter. All of the information stolen is likely valuable and dangerous to affected victims. In previous data breaches, victims of data theft have noticed identity theft attempts ranging from fraudulent charges on bank accounts or credit cards, to unauthorized credit card applications, to medical services or government services ordered in their name, to their information being posted on the dark web, to a massive uptick in the number of spam text messages, calls and emails received.
