Migliaccio & Rathod LLP is currently investigating the 2022-2023 Rivian R1T electric truck, for a design defect that leaves the vehicle’s undercarriage exposed to debris. The Rivian’s truck bed extends its loading space to the tailgate through the use of a flap design that covers the hinges that connect the tailgate to the truck bed. The flap does not provide a complete cover, however, such that small pieces of rock, soil, or other debris still remaining on the tailgate can slide down toward the hinges that have an opening to the undercarriage over the vehicle, which is a gap in the truck between the battery and body. This area is otherwise inaccessible absent removing the undercarriage, meaning that truck owners may be hauling additional weight inside the truck with each subsequent load, with no way to get rid of the debris.
Are you a Rivian truck owner who has hauled soil, dirt, or other debris that may slide down to the undercarriage of the truck?
