Columbia Grain, LLC, Data Breach Investigation

Migliaccio & Rathod, LLP, is investigating a recent data breach from Columbia Grain International, LLC (“Columbia Grain”).  On approximately March 21, 2022, hackers got into Columbia Grain’s servers, stealing some information. At this moment, Columbia Grain has not revealed what information was taken, but data breach notice letters should contain notification of what was lost.

Usually, companies are only required to report breaches when sensitive consumer information is at risk, such as financial account numbers or Social Security numbers (SSNs).  These may have been taken in the breach. Given how long it has been since the breach, hackers may have already been able to sell the data or otherwise benefit from the fraudulent misuse of such information. People affected by the data breach may have already noticed (or may soon notice) one or more of the following types of fraudulent activity: tax fraud, including theft of a tax return; unauthorized credit card inquiries or charges; or requests for loans or benefits in an individual’s name without their consent.
