Migliaccio & Rathod LLP is currently investigating Acer over allegations that their laptops fail to meet marketed standards due to endemic overheating. Specifically, consumers report that the Acer Aspire 5 gets extremely hot to touch and that, correspondingly, the basic functionality gets throttled. These functional defects manifest in screen freezing, sudden blue screen appearance and/or, all out black outs, wherein the laptop shuts itself down completely. Some consumers report that, in these black out events, they have found the only way to restart the computer was to remove the battery, to separately cool down, before reconnecting it. Owners express disappointment that the laptop, marketed as capable of handling anything from casual to business tasks, often instead overheats during normal use, only shortly after purchase.
This unpredictable, yet persistent, overheating which causes functional delays and failures puts owners at risk of losing unsaved work or corrupting files. Over the long term, battery life suffers because the computer uses more power to cool itself down, and lithium-ion batteries degrade in high heat conditions. Indeed, owners of the Acer Aspire 5 report that they are getting nowhere near the advertised usage of these laptops, even at a minimum, to use the laptop comfortably and dependably on the go. User forums suggest at-home fixes, which fail to address the root of the defect, while Acer has failed to take any adequate action to offer solution to its customers.
