Migliaccio & Rathod LLP is currently investigating the St.Louis-based Wolff Shoe d/b/a Marmi Shoes (“Marmi Shoes”) for failing to safeguard sensitive customer payment card information in a data breach that occurred from August 29, 2021 through January 31, 2022. Marmi Shoes was alerted to potentially fraudulent activity in January 2022 and confirmed that an unauthorized party added malicious code to the Marmi Shoes website for the purpose of capturing Marmi Shoes’ customers’ payment card data. The extent of the data breach and number of customers impacted is still unknown and Marmi Shoes is finally providing notification of the data breach to potentially affected customers.
Due to the lapse in time between the data breach and the notice to affected customers, hackers may have already been able to acquire and sell or otherwise fraudulently use the sensitive payment card information compromised in the data breach. In previous payment card data breaches, victims of data theft have been forced to spend money on credit monitoring services or have lost funds as a result of fraudulent charges to their debit and credit cards. Individuals affected by the data breach may have noticed (or may notice in coming days) suspicious credit and/or debit card activity due to the Marmi Shoes data breach.
