Ford 7.3L V8 Camshaft and Lifter Failures Investigation

Migliaccio & Rathod LLP is investigating alleged camshaft and lifter failures involving certain Ford vehicles equipped with the 7.3-liter gasoline V8 engine. These failures may cause premature engine-component wear, severe engine damage, and a sudden loss of engine power while driving.

On October 23, 2026, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) opened Defect Petition DP26011 to evaluate allegations involving Ford’s 7.3L gasoline engines. The petition concerns 2021–2022 Ford E-350 vehicles and 2021 Ford F-59 and F-750 vehicles equipped with the affected engine.

According to the petition, insufficient oil lubrication at low engine idle speeds may cause excessive wear to the lifter rollers and camshaft lobes. If the components deteriorate significantly, the engine may suffer catastrophic damage or lose power with little warning.

The NHTSA petition remains under investigation to determine whether further action is warranted. It is not itself a recall or a final determination that a safety defect exists.

Consumers May Have Experienced:

  • Unusual ticking or tapping noises from the upper engine;
  • Rough engine operation, misfires, or warning lights;
  • Premature camshaft or lifter wear;
  • Extensive engine repairs or complete engine replacement;
  • Sudden loss of engine power while driving;
  • Vehicle downtime, towing expenses, and lost work or business use.

Potential Claims May Include:

  • Claims for reimbursement of qualifying engine repair or replacement expenses;
  • Product-liability claims if the alleged defect caused personal injury or property damage.
