Migliaccio & Rathod LLP is investigating reports that certain Sea to Summit Ether Light XT and Ether Light XT Extreme sleeping pads may develop recurring pinhole leaks around their welded Air Sprung Cells.
The Sea to Summit Ether Light design uses numerous individual welded air cells across the sleeping surface. Some consumers have reported that small leaks begin forming around the edges of those welds, sometimes at several different locations on the same pad.
For some owners, patching the first leak does not solve the problem. New leaks may later appear around other welds, and some consumers report that even warranty replacement pads eventually developed substantially the same issue.
Consumers Report:
- pinhole leaks developing around Air Sprung Cell welds;
- several welds leaking on the same sleeping pad;
- new leaks appearing after earlier leaks were repaired;
- repeatedly needing to patch the dimple or dot-weld areas;
- pads failing after only a small number of camping trips;
- waking up with the sleeping pad partially or completely deflated;
- original pads and warranty replacements developing similar leaks; and
- receiving a later Ether Light model as a replacement for a failed XT.
A consumer who purchases a premium insulated sleeping pad should not reasonably expect to spend each trip searching for and repairing new leaks in structural welds.
Migliaccio & Rathod is investigating whether the Sea to Summit Ether Light XT and XT Extreme may share a recurring problem involving the construction or durability of their Air Sprung Cell welds and whether affected consumers received a lasting warranty remedy.
Potential Claims May Include:
- defective weld design;
- defective Air Sprung Cell construction;
- breach of express or implied warranty;
- failure to adequately disclose recurring weld-related leaks;
- failure to provide an effective warranty repair or replacement; and
- unfair or deceptive trade practices.
Signs You May Be Affected:
- You purchased a Sea to Summit Ether Light XT or XT Extreme;
- your sleeping pad repeatedly lost air;
- the leaks appeared around circular, dimple-shaped, or welded areas;
- several different welds developed leaks;
- you repaired one leak only for another to develop;
- Sea to Summit replaced your pad under warranty; or
- your replacement pad later developed the same problem.
