Big Agnes Rapide SL Insulation Separation Investigation

Migliaccio & Rathod LLP is investigating reports that certain Big Agnes Rapide SL insulated sleeping pads may experience internal insulation that separates, shifts, or collects inside the pad, potentially leaving users with substantially less warmth than they expected.

Unlike an ordinary air leak, this problem may occur even while the sleeping pad continues to remain inflated.

Consumers have reported seeing reflective insulation detach from its intended position and move around inside the pad, sometimes collecting toward one end or side. Some owners report that the problem appeared after only a few camping trips and that replacement pads later developed similar insulation separation.

Consumers Report:

  • reflective insulation separating inside the sleeping pad;
  • strips or sheets of insulating material visibly moving inside the pad;
  • insulation collecting toward one end or side;
  • the problem appearing after relatively limited use;
  • sleeping pads feeling noticeably colder after the insulation separated;
  • warranty replacement pads developing the same problem; and
  • concerns that the pad no longer provides the thermal performance advertised when it was purchased.

The Big Agnes Rapide SL is sold as an insulated sleeping pad, and its thermal performance can be especially important to campers relying on it in cool or cold conditions. If insulation shifts away from substantial portions of the sleeping surface, consumers may be left with a pad that remains inflated but no longer performs as expected.

Migliaccio & Rathod is investigating whether certain Rapide SL pads experience premature separation or delamination of their internal insulation and whether that deterioration materially affects their warmth.

Potential Claims May Include:

  • defective internal insulation construction;
  • premature insulation separation or delamination;
  • breach of express or implied warranty;
  • failure to disclose a recurring durability problem;
  • misleading representations concerning insulation performance; and
  • unfair or deceptive trade practices.
