Ford Maverick Hybrid Braking Failures Investigation

Migliaccio & Rathod LLP is investigating allegations that certain Ford Maverick Hybrid pickup trucks may intermittently lose braking capability. The reported issue may involve the vehicle’s anti-lock braking system and regenerative braking, potentially reducing the driver’s ability to stop safely.

On August 24, 2026, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) opened a Defect Petition DP26007 concerning these alleged braking issues.

The petition followed an owner’s report that the vehicle intermittently lost anti-lock and regenerative braking functions. The owner alleged that the problem persisted through four repair attempts and more than 50 days out of service.

The petition also describes a September 2025 collision in which the owner reported applying the brakes to avoid another vehicle but being unable to stop in time.

The petitioner alleges that Ford improperly excluded the 2024 Maverick Hybrid from related brake-control software recalls. These are allegations in a defect petition, not a final determination that the vehicle contains a safety defect.

These reports are allegations, not proof that Ford violated the law or that all 2024 Maverick Hybrid trucks have defective brakes.

Consumers May Have Experienced:

  • Problems involving anti-lock or regenerative braking functions;
  • Longer stopping distances or difficulty stopping when expected.
  • Brake-system warning messages or diagnostic fault codes;
  • A collision or near miss allegedly associated with loss of braking;
  • Repeated dealership visits without a lasting repair;
  • Extended periods without the vehicle and related transportation expenses.

Potential Claims May Include:

  • Returned to a dealership multiple times for the same braking complaint;
  • Experienced a collision or near miss that you believe was caused by reduced braking capability;
