Babbel Automatic Renewal Investigation

Migliaccio & Rathod LLP is investigating whether Babbel improperly charged consumers for automatic subscription renewals, failed to provide adequate renewal notices, or made it difficult to cancel subscriptions and free trials.

Babbel is a language-learning platform that offers recurring subscriptions, including multi-month and annual plans. Unless cancelled, these subscriptions may automatically renew for another billing period.

Consumers have reported unexpected renewal charges, including charges for an additional year of service that they did not intend to purchase.

Several consumers have alleged that they received insufficient advance notice before their subscriptions renewed. Others report being charged despite believing they had cancelled or disabled automatic renewal.

Some consumers have also raised concerns about Babbel free-trial cancellation process. In one September 2026 report, a consumer alleged that disabling automatic renewal during a trial did not clearly prevent the trial from converting into a paid subscription.

Other complaints describe refund refusals following unexpected renewals, including consumers who say they did not realize they had agreed to recurring payments.

Migliaccio & Rathod is investigating whether Babbel clearly discloses its automatic renewal terms, obtains legally required consent, provides appropriate renewal notices, and honors cancellation requests.

Consumers Report:

  • Unexpected annual or multi-month subscription renewals;
  • Renewal charges without adequate advance notice;
  • Being charged after attempting to cancel or disable automatic renewal;
  • Confusing free-trial cancellation procedures;
  • Difficulty obtaining refunds for unwanted renewals; or
  • Recurring charges they did not understand or knowingly authorize.

Potential Claims May Include:

  • Violations of state automatic renewal laws;
  • Failure to obtain legally required consent to recurring charges;
  • Inadequate renewal notices or subscription disclosures;
  • Failure to honor cancellation requests; or
  • Unfair or deceptive subscription billing practices.

Signs You May Be Affected:

  • You purchased a Babbel subscription or signed up for a free trial;
  • Your subscription renewed without adequate advance notice;
  • You were charged for another subscription period you did not intend to purchase;
  • You were charged after attempting to cancel or disable automatic renewal;
  • Your free trial converted into a paid subscription unexpectedly; or
  • You were denied a refund for an unwanted renewal.
