Hyundai Palisade Power Seat Injury Investigation

Migliaccio & Rathod LLP is investigating reports of a potentially dangerous power seat defect in 2026 Hyundai Palisade vehicles that may cause second-row seats to continue moving even when a person or object is in the way.

The 2026 Hyundai Palisade is equipped with power-folding and one-touch seat features designed to make it easier for passengers to access the second and third rows. However, owners have reported instances in which these seats continued folding, reclining, or sliding after coming into contact with a child, adult, child safety seat, or other obstruction.

Instead of detecting the obstruction and stopping or reversing, an affected seat may continue applying force. This can create a serious risk that someone inside the vehicle will become trapped, pinned, or crushed by the moving seat.

The problem is particularly concerning for families with young children. A child may accidentally press a seat-control button, or another passenger may activate the controls without realizing someone is in the seat’s path. If the seat does not properly recognize the obstruction, it may continue moving even after contacting the occupant.

Hyundai has issued Recall 296 (NHTSA Campaign 26V160000) concerning this issue. However, some Hyundai Palisade owners continue to report problems with their seats or have experienced changes in how the seats operate following recall-related repairs or software updates.

Owners have reported problems including seats that no longer travel normally, loss of one-touch or touchscreen seat controls, unexpected seat movement, and difficulty obtaining a satisfactory repair from Hyundai dealerships.

Migliaccio & Rathod is investigating whether affected Hyundai Palisade owners may have claims arising from the power seat defect and whether Hyundai’s recall remedy adequately addresses the problem.

Owners Report:

  • Second-row seats continuing to move after contacting a person or object;
  • Children or adults becoming trapped, pinned, or compressed by a moving seat;
  • Seats failing to stop or reverse when encountering resistance;
  • Unexpected seat movement after a seat-control button is accidentally pressed;
  • Power-seat features no longer working normally after a recall update; and
  • Dealerships being unable to fully resolve problems with the affected seats.

Potential Claims May Include:

  • Defective design;
  • Failure to provide adequate obstruction or anti-pinch protection;
  • Failure to adequately warn consumers;
  • Breach of warranty;
  • Loss of vehicle value or advertised functionality; and
  • Violations of applicable consumer-protection laws.

Signs You May Be Affected:

  • You own or lease a 2026 Hyundai Palisade;
  • Your vehicle is or was covered by Recall 296 / NHTSA Campaign 26V160000;
  • A second-row seat continued moving after contacting a person, child safety seat, or other object;
  • You or a passenger was trapped, pinched, compressed, or injured by a moving seat;
