Generac Next Generation Oil Level Sensor Investigation

Migliaccio & Rathod LLP is investigating reports of a potential oil-level sensor defect affecting certain 2025–2026 Generac Next Generation home standby generators.

Generac Next Generation generators use oil-level sensors intended to monitor engine oil and help keep the generator ready for operation. However, technicians have reported multiple instances of oil-level sensor failures or false oil-level warnings affecting newer generators.

In some reported cases, addressing the internal sensor problem has allegedly required replacement of the generator’s engine, rather than simply replacing an easily accessible sensor. Technicians have also raised the possibility that normal metallic debris generated during engine break-in may interfere with the sensor, although that proposed mechanism has not been independently established.

Migliaccio & Rathod is investigating whether a common oil-level sensor or its placement within certain Generac Next Generation engines can produce false readings, disable an otherwise functional generator, or result in substantial engine repairs.

Owners May Have Experienced:

  • A high- or low-oil warning despite an appropriate oil level;
  • A generator refusing to start because of an oil-level fault;
  • Repeated oil-sensor warnings after maintenance;
  • Being told that an internal oil-level sensor failed;
  • Being told that the engine must be replaced to correct the sensor problem; or
  • Extended generator downtime while awaiting an engine or repair.

Potential Claims May Include:

  • Defective oil-level sensors;
  • Defective engine or sensor design;
  • Breach of express or implied warranties;
  • Failure to provide an effective repair;
  • Loss of use or diminished product value; and
  • Violations of applicable consumer-protection laws.

Signs You May Be Affected:

  • You own a 2025–2026 Generac Next Generation standby generator;
  • Your generator displayed an unexplained high- or low-oil warning;
  • The oil level was normal despite the warning;
  • A technician diagnosed an internal oil-level sensor problem;
  • Generac or your dealer recommended engine replacement; or
  • The oil-sensor problem prevented your generator from operating.
