Generac Next Generation Controller Investigation

Migliaccio & Rathod LLP is investigating reports that Power Zone 200 controllers used in certain 2025–2026 Generac Next Generation standby generators may become unresponsive or inoperative during software or firmware updates.

Generac Next Generation generators use the Power Zone 200 controller to manage generator operation. A malfunctioning controller can potentially prevent an otherwise functional standby generator from starting and providing emergency power.

One reported 18 kW generator experienced repeated controller and connectivity problems before its controller allegedly locked up during a software update and would no longer power on. After the controller was replaced, the replacement controller reportedly became inoperative during another update as well. The owner subsequently experienced an extended utility outage without generator protection. Pasted markdown

Other recent reports describe E2780 or missing AC charging errors that technicians have attributed to possible firmware problems, although those reports do not independently establish a common defect. Pasted markdown

Migliaccio & Rathod is investigating whether particular controller or firmware versions can leave Generac Next Generation standby generators unable to operate when emergency power is needed.
