Migliaccio & Rathod LLP is investigating reports that certain 2021–2023 Harley-Davidson Pan America motorcycles may experience premature charging-system failures involving the stator, rotor, or related electrical components, potentially causing low-voltage warnings, loss of electrical power, stalling, or repeated expensive repairs.
The investigation includes 2021–2023 Pan America RA1250 and RA1250S motorcycles.
Harley-Davidson changed the Revolution Max charging system for the 2024 model year. According to a January 2024 Harley-Davidson service bulletin, the updated system was designed to improve electrical output at idle and low RPM and included a thicker stator with additional wire, repositioned rotor magnets, a modified cooling manifold, and other component changes. Harley also created a retrofit kit for earlier 2021–2023 motorcycles.
Some owners of earlier Harley-Davidson Pan America motorcycles have reported experiencing charging failures even after the motorcycle had already been repaired.
Consumers Report:
- low-voltage or charging-system warnings;
- motorcycles failing to keep the battery charged;
- repeated battery problems caused by an underlying charging-system failure;
- stator or rotor failures;
- motorcycles unexpectedly entering limp mode or losing power;
- engines stalling while riding;
- needing roadside assistance or towing;
- paying more than $1,000 for charging-system repairs; and
- experiencing a second failure after earlier charging components were replaced.
One 2026 report involved a 2021 Harley-Davidson Pan America whose owner alleged that the motorcycle stalled while exiting a freeway following a charging-system failure. According to the report, the owner had previously paid approximately $1,248 for an earlier charging-system repair, received another original-generation stator, and experienced another failure roughly two years later.
Migliaccio & Rathod is investigating whether certain early Harley-Davidson Pan America motorcycles were sold with charging-system components that may fail prematurely and whether owners who experienced failures received an adequate and lasting repair.
Potential Claims May Include:
- defective charging-system design;
- defective stator, rotor, or related electrical components;
- breach of express warranty;
- breach of implied warranty;
- failure to adequately disclose a recurring charging-system problem;
- unfair or deceptive trade practices; and
- damages associated with repairs, towing, batteries, loss of use, or diminished value.
Signs You May Be Affected:
- You own or previously owned a 2021, 2022, or 2023 Harley-Davidson Pan America RA1250 or RA1250S;
- your motorcycle developed a low-voltage or charging-system warning;
- your stator, rotor, battery, or related charging component required replacement;
- your motorcycle stalled or lost power because of a charging problem;
- you paid out of pocket for diagnosis, towing, batteries, or charging-system repairs;
- your warranty or extended-warranty claim was denied; or
- you experienced another charging failure after an earlier stator or charging-system repair.
