Migliaccio & Rathod LLP is investigating reports that Pride Jazzy Air 2 power wheelchairs may unexpectedly accelerate, slow down, or otherwise behave differently from the speed selected by the user.
The Jazzy Air 2 features an elevating seat that allows users to raise or lower their seating position while retaining mobility. Reports concerning the chair have raised questions about whether certain Jazzy Air 2 wheelchairs may experience unexpected changes in speed or driving behavior after the seat is raised or lowered.
For someone relying on a Pride Jazzy Air 2 power wheelchair for everyday mobility, an unexpected change in speed can be more than an inconvenience. A wheelchair that accelerates or behaves differently than the user expects may make it difficult to safely maneuver around walls, furniture, pedestrians, or other obstacles.
Consumers Report:
- unexpected changes in wheelchair speed;
- wheelchairs behaving differently after the elevating seat is raised or lowered;
- actual movement that does not appear to correspond with the selected speed setting;
- unexpected acceleration or other erratic driving behavior;
- problems involving the controller or electronic drive system; and
- contacting dealers or technicians about similar speed-control problems.
Migliaccio & Rathod is investigating whether certain Pride Jazzy Air 2 wheelchairs may experience a controller, software, or electronic-drive problem that causes unexpected driving behavior, including when transitioning between elevated and lowered seating positions.
