Blackstone Griddle Top Warping Investigation

Migliaccio & Rathod LLP is investigating reports that certain Blackstone griddles may develop permanent warping, bowing, or deformation of their steel cooking surfaces during ordinary use.

The investigation includes reports involving popular 22-inch and 28-inch Blackstone griddles. These products are built around a large, flat steel cooking surface intended to provide an even area for preparing food.

Some consumers, however, have reported that their griddle tops develop humps, bows, or other deformation after being heated, sometimes after relatively limited use. The concern is not ordinary temporary expansion of metal while hot, but rather deformation that remains or repeatedly returns and interferes with the griddle’s normal cooking performance.

Consumers Report:

  • the griddle top bowing or developing a raised area;
  • permanent or recurring warping after heating;
  • oil, grease, or food running toward one side because the surface is no longer level;
  • food cooking unevenly across the griddle;
  • the cooking surface rocking or no longer sitting properly;
  • deformation developing after relatively limited use; and
  • needing a replacement griddle top because the original surface would not remain flat.

For consumers purchasing a flat-top griddle, the flat cooking surface is central to the product’s intended function. Significant permanent deformation can affect heat distribution, grease drainage, and the ability to cook food evenly.

Migliaccio & Rathod is investigating whether affected Blackstone griddles share a common problem involving the thickness, construction, materials, or heat resistance of their steel cooking surfaces.

Potential Claims May Include:

  • defective griddle-top design;
  • inadequate materials or construction;
  • breach of express or implied warranty;
  • failure to provide an adequate replacement;
  • failure to disclose a recurring durability problem; and
  • unfair or deceptive trade practices.

Signs You May Be Affected:

  • You purchased a Blackstone griddle, including a 22-inch or 28-inch model;
  • the steel cooking surface developed a permanent hump, bow, or other deformation;
  • the problem appeared during ordinary cooking;
  • grease or food no longer distributes properly because the surface is uneven;
  • the warped surface causes noticeably uneven cooking;
  • Blackstone replaced or declined to replace your griddle top; or
  • a replacement cooking surface developed the same problem.
