On April 3, 2025, Cumberland County Hospital (“CCH“) discovered unauthorized access in its computer system. CCH subsequently conducted an investigation, which determined a cybercriminal had stolen the personally identifiable information of individuals maintained therein between February 21, 2025, and April 3, 2025. The compromised information includes the following sensitive data:
- full names
- dates of birth
- Social Secuity numbers
- physical addresses
- email addresses
- phone numbers
- race or ethnicity information
- clinical information (including medications, diagnoses, treatment notes, and dates of service)
- medical record numbers
- health plan numbers
- claims information
- billing information
The Cumberland County Hospital Data Breach
The Cumberland County Hospital recently provided notice of the data breach. All of the information stolen is likely valuable and dangerous to affected victims. As is likely to be the case with the CCH data breach, in previous cyberattacks, victims of data theft have noticed identity theft attempts ranging from fraudulent charges on bank accounts or credit cards, to unauthorized credit card applications, to medical services or government services ordered in their name, to their information being posted on the dark web, to a massive uptick in the number of spam text messages, calls and emails received.
