Migliaccio & Rathod LLP is involved in the International Association of Sheet Metal Air Rail Workers (SMART) data breach investigation, for a data breach affecting 62,939 individuals and their personal information.
On September 9, 2023, SMART became aware of a network disruption that occurred on or about September 9, 2023, by which unauthorized access to its data was obtained. Member information was impacted. This information includes names and Social Security numbers.
SMART recently began informing individuals of this breach through a mailed notice letter. All of the information stolen is likely valuable and dangerous to affected victims. In previous data breaches, victims of data theft have noticed identity theft attempts ranging from fraudulent charges on bank accounts or credit cards, to unauthorized credit card applications, to medical services or government services ordered in their name, to their information being posted on the dark web, to a massive uptick in the number of spam text messages, calls and emails received.
