Family Vision Data Breach Investigation

Migliaccio & Rathod LLP is investigating Family Vision of Anderson, P.A., for a data breach of over 62,000 customers’ personal information.  On or around May 21, 2023 an unauthorized third party breached Family Vision’s computer system, stealing patients’ personal information, including first and last name, date of birth, social security number, driver’s license, address, telephone number, email address, gender, medical record number, health insurance company, health insurance number, allergies and other medical history, appointment date(s), scheduled optometrist, optometry prescription, and optometry eye scans. an individual’s first and last name, social security numbers, policyholder’s sexes, zip codes, dates of birth, and PBI account numbers.  Family Vision recently began informing customers of this breach in July 2023 through a written notification letter. All of the information stolen is likely valuable and dangerous. In previous data breaches, victims of data theft have noticed identity theft attempts ranging from fraudulent charges on bank accounts or credit cards, to unauthorized credit card applications, to medical services or government services ordered in their name, to their information being posted on the dark web, to a massive uptick in the number of spam text messages, calls and emails received.
