Migliaccio & Rathod is investigating Brightline, Inc., for a data breach. Brightline Medical Associates (“Brightline”) is a healthcare company, focusing in particular on mental health care. Currently, Brightline is informing affected patients of an incident involving a technology provider of theirs, GoAnywhere MFT Software-as-a-Service (“SaaS”). Ultimately, however, responsibility for the lost data rests with Brightline itself. On January 30th, 2023, the Brightline’s software provider detected suspicious activity in its computer system, indicating that an unauthorized third party had gained access to patient data. It informed Brightline of this on or around February 4, 2023. Brightline is only now informing people of the incident. The affect patient data includes: first and last name, date of birth, sex, employer, subscriber ID, member ID, group ID, address, email address, coverage start and end dates, and Social Security number (SSN).
All of the information stolen is likely valuable and dangerous. In previous data breaches, victims of data theft have noticed identity theft attempts ranging from fraudulent charges on bank accounts or credit cards, to medical services or government services ordered in their name, to their information being posted on the dark web.
