Customer Service Chatbot Wiretapping

Migliaccio & Rathod, LLP, is investigating a variety of businesses for unlawfully sharing information obtained in customer service conversations with online chatbots.  Many businesses employ customer service chatbots on their websites, such as the example given here:

These chatbots often ask for sensitive information, such as names and email addresses.  Without ever asking permission, these details can be relayed to a third party, such as a marketing agency or other group. This breaks many states’ wiretapping laws, which require conversations between two parties to be private unless said otherwise.

Have you used any of these customer service chatbots? If so, we would like to hear from you.  Please complete the contact form on this page, send us an email at [email protected], or give us a call at (202) 470-3520. The lawyers at Migliaccio & Rathod LLP have years of experience in class action litigation against large corporations, including in cases involving data breaches such as this. More information about our current cases and investigations is available on our blog.
