Migliaccio & Rathod LLP is currently investigating the Community Health Systems of Franklin, Tennessee, (“Community Health”) for an apparent failure to protect patient medical data. According to Community Health, cybercriminals took advantage of security holes in software licensed to Community Health by the software company Forta. Community Health Systems has referred to this as the “Forta Breach.” These holes were discovered by Forta on January 30, 2023.
Community Health Systems has admitted that protected health information (“PHI”) of patients, as well as personal information (“PI”) was disclosed in this breach.
In previous data breaches, victims of data theft have noticed identity theft attempts ranging from fraudulent charges on bank accounts or credit cards, medical and/or government services ordered in their name, or their information being posted on the dark web.
