Southeast Colorado Hospital District Data Breach Investigation

Migliaccio & Rathod LLP is currently investigating Southeast Colorado Hospital District (“SECHD”) for an apparent failure to safeguard patient information in a data breach.  In or around December of 2022, SECHD suffered a data breach, revealing the names and personal identifiers of individuals in combination with their Social Security Numbers (SSNs), as well as driver’s license numbers, dates of birth, medical treatment or diagnosis information, and health insurance information.

The cybercriminals responsible for the breach may have already obtained and sold the compromised patient information. In previous data breaches, victims of data theft have noticed identity theft attempts ranging from fraudulent charges on bank accounts or credit cards, medical and/or government services ordered in their name, or their information being posted on the dark web.
