On December 4, 2022, Howard Memorial Hospital discovered an unauthorized actor had stolen data from its systems. It conducted an investigation and concluded that the data had been stolen sometime between November 14th, 2022, and December 4, 2022. The stolen information included patient names, contact information, dates of birth, Social Security numbers, health insurance information, medical record number (MRN), medical history, diagnosis, treatment information, and physician name.
The cybercriminals responsible for the breach may have already obtained and sold the compromised patient information. In previous data breaches, victims of data theft have noticed identity theft attempts ranging from fraudulent charges on bank accounts or credit cards, medical and/or government services ordered in their name, or their information being posted on the dark web.
