Migliaccio & Rathod LLP is currently investigating the California-based accounting firm M. Green and Company (“M. Green”) for its data security practices in the wake of a data breach. M. Green has not disclosed when this breach occurred. In a recent data notice, the firm acknowledged that it discovered the incident on July 14, 2022, and it is now notifying affected clients.
Hackers may have seized the name, gender, dates of birth, telephone number, address, and social security number of individual M. Green clients. Companies, nonprofits, and other entities who are M. Green clients may have had their company name, Federal Employer Identification Number, address, telephone number compromised, as well as information about employees or 1099 recipients, and the name, address, and social security number of any partners, officers, shareholders, or beneficiaries.
Given how long it has been since the breach, hackers may have already been able to sell the data or otherwise benefit from the fraudulent misuse of such information. People affected by the data breach may have already noticed (or may soon notice) one or more of the following types of fraudulent activity: tax fraud, including theft of a tax return; unauthorized credit card inquiries or charges; requests for loans or benefits in an individual’s or institution’s name without their consent; or disrupted use of an institution’s website.
