Migliaccio & Rathod LLP is currently investigating the Texas-based company FMC, LLC, which does business as Family Medicine Centers (“FMC”). FMC recently notified the Department of Health and Human Services of an unauthorized security breach. Hackers may have seized patient names, addresses, email addresses, dates of birth, Social Security numbers, health insurance providers, or medical diagnoses.
FMC became aware of the attack in or about June of this year, but only began distributing data breach notification letters in September. As result, hackers may have already been able to sell the data or otherwise benefit from the fraudulent misuse of such information. People affected by the data breach may have already noticed (or may soon notice) one or more of the following types of fraudulent activity related to their personal and health information: unauthorized credit card inquiries or charges, requests for loans or benefits in an individual’s name without their consent, fake medical procedures ordered, or disrupted use of an institution’s website.
