Migliaccio & Rathod LLP is currently investigating the Saginaw, Michigan-based business services provider Morley Companies, Inc. for failing to safeguard sensitive employee and client information in a data breach that occurred in August of 2021. The security incident was caused by unauthorized access to the company’s networks, which exposed the information of current and former employees, as well the company’s business clients. Examples of the types of data exposed in the leak include names, addresses, Social Security numbers, dates of birth, client identification numbers, medical diagnostic and treatment information, and health insurance information.
Although Morley Companies began notifying affected individuals that their information was included in the data breach in early 2022, the company’s press release notes that an investigation determined the extent of the data breach as early as August of 2021. In previous data breaches involving a company’s digital systems, victims of data theft have had their information posted online with little information about who may have viewed or accessed it. Victims of these types of data attacks may be forced to spend money out of pocket for credit monitoring or fraudulent charges to bank and hospital accounts. Some individuals affected by the breach may have noticed suspicious credit card charges, requests for services or loans in their name, medical procedures ordered without patient consent, and/ or other examples of identity theft.
Are you or have you been a Morley Companies client who has received a data breach notification letter in the past year?
