Migliaccio & Rathod LLP is currently investigating ParkMobile for a data breach that took place as early as March 26, 2021. At issue is their use of a vulnerable third party program in the administration of their service. ParkMobile reports that customers’ credit card information and geographic locations were not released in the breach. However, general account information was stolen including the following:
- License plate numbers
- Email addresses
- Phone numbers
- Vehicle nicknames
- Mailing addresses (in a smaller subset of cases)
Also of note was the compromise of encrypted customer passwords, but not the encryption keys required to read them. ParkMobile released a statement clarifying that they protect passwords with complex encryption codes, nearly impossible to crack.
More than 20 million customers have been impacted by the breach nationwide, as ParkMobile is used for contactless parking payment in cities across the United States. The full extent of this breach is not yet known. Accordingly, local news outlets across the country are urging consumers to change their commonly used passwords and to diversify the passwords they use across the board.
