On February 21, 2019 Ford disclosed internal concerns about its emission certification process, in effect stating the possible need to restructure their fuel economy and emissions compliance process to ensure the accurate reporting of MPG numbers. Given consumers’ reliance on MPG figures, an inaccurate or overinflated estimation could lead to hundreds of dollars more spent per year by buyers or lessees of Ford vehicles.
