Ford “Coastdown Cheating” MPG Investigation

Migliaccio & Rathod LLP is currently investigating Ford vehicles, including the 2018 Ford Ranger and 2018-2019 F-150 series trucks, for reporting inaccurate fuel economy numbers that were the result of improper coastdown testing. The purpose of coastdown testing is to determine a vehicle’s rolling resistance and drag. Those figures are then applied on the vehicle to simulate the road and, when done properly, provide an accurate MPG number. Applying the proper coastdown procedure to Ford’s 2015 F-150 reveals a real highway mileage number that is 15% lower than what’s shown on the vehicle’s window sticker, and a city number that is 10% lower. Over the vehicle’s lifetime, this difference amounts to thousands more spent on fuel than expected.
