Intel Spectre and Meltdown Patches Investigation

Migliaccio & Rathod LLP is investigating the deleterious effects that Intel’s patches to address Spectre and Meltdown have had on businesses. Spectre and Meltdown are security vulnerabilities that allow for the retrieval of sensitive information stored in the operating system kernel memory. This information includes emails, passwords, photos, and any data stored in the PC. Intel’s solutions have made businesses trade performance for security, as the actions that allowed for quick operations in the processor were worked around to stop applications from retrieving data found in the operating system kernel. The performance slowdown has ranged anywhere between 1 percent and 45 percent after the application of Intel’s patches and have also resulted in repeated reboots and random shutdowns.

A few weeks following its patch release, Intel advised users not to download the current version of the patch because of rebooting and unexpected issues.
