Migliaccio & Rathod LLP is involved in the Custom Wealth Management data breach investigation, for a breach that affected an unknown number of individuals and their personal information.
On July 15, 2024, Custom Wealth Management became aware of unauthorized activity on its systems. The company launched a forensic investigation which confirmed that a third party accessed Custom Wealth Management’s computer systems. Though the investigation concluded on October 7, 2024, affected consumers were not notified of the Custom Wealth Management data breach until recently. Custom Wealth Management discovered that hackers were able to compromise a significant amount of personal information. The compromised information includes a variety of highly sensitive details, possibly including:
- Names,
- Address,
- Driver’s license
- Financial information and credit/debit card numbers
- Biometric information
- Health information
- Date of birth,
- Social Security numbers
The Custom Wealth Management Data Breach
Custom Wealth Management informed the Vermont State Attorney General’s office of the breach, where a copy of the consumer notification letter can be found. All of the information stolen is likely valuable and dangerous to affected victims. As is likely to be the case with the Custom Wealth Management data breach, in previous data breaches, victims of data theft have noticed identity theft attempts ranging from fraudulent charges on bank accounts or credit cards, to unauthorized credit card applications, to medical services or government services ordered in their name, to their information being posted on the dark web, to a massive uptick in the number of spam text messages, calls and emails received.
