United of Omaha Life Insurance Data Breach Investigation

United of Omaha Life Insurance Data Breach Investigation

Migliaccio & Rathod LLP is involved in the United of Omaha Life Insurance Data Breach investigation, for a data breach affecting 107,894 individuals and their personal information.

The United of Omaha Life Insurance Data Breach Data Breach

United of Omaha Life Insurance (“United of Omaha”) provides health insurance services and through this acquires the sensitive data of patients. On an unspecified date, United of Omaha became aware of suspicious activity on its network. Subsequently, United of Omaha conducted an investigation, where it discovered that a cybercriminal had accessed and removed certain patient files between April 21, 2024 and April 23, 2024 using a compromised employee email account. The compromised files contained patients’ personally identifiable information, including private health information, such as full names, dates of birth, Social Security numbers, medical information, employer information, and health insurance information. The United of Omaha data breach is significant and may result in serious harm to the affected individuals.

United of Omaha recently began informing individuals of these breaches through a mailed notice letter. All of the information stolen is likely valuable and dangerous to affected victims. In previous data breaches, victims of data theft have noticed identity theft attempts ranging from fraudulent charges on bank accounts or credit cards, to unauthorized credit card applications, to medical services or government services ordered in their name, to their information being posted on the dark web, to a massive uptick in the number of spam text messages, calls and emails received.
