Migliaccio & Rathod LLP is currently investigating the Williston, North Dakota-based healthcare software and billing company Adaptive Health Integrations (AHI) for failing to safeguard sensitive patient information in a data breach that occurred in October of 2021.
Although AHI began sending notifications to affected patients in April of 2022, the data breach occurred several months before the company completed its investigation and provide notice to affected individuals. Due to the lapse in time between the breach and the company’s notice to affected patients, hackers may have already been able to acquire and sell sensitive patient information such as Social Security numbers. In previous data breaches, victims of data theft have been forced to spend money on credit monitoring services or other fraudulent charges. Some individuals affected by the data breach at AHI may have noticed one or more of the following types of fraudulent activity related to their healthcare or financial information: unauthorized credit card charges, requests for loans or benefits in a patient’s name without their consent, fake medical procedures ordered, and/or disrupted use of the institution’s website or patient portal.
