Migliaccio & Rathod LLP is currently investigating the Oregon Anesthesiology Group for failing to safeguard sensitive patient information in a data breach that occurred in July of 2021. The data breach was caused by unauthorized access to the medical group’s network that allowed Ukrainian hackers to access the personal information of past and present patients using a “HelloKitty” ransomware package. Examples of the types of data exposed in the leak include names, dates of birth, addresses, social security numbers, medical records, lab results, diagnoses, medications, health insurance information, and dates of services.
When hacker groups target healthcare facilities, these criminals can commit a number of identity theft crimes. For example, in previous data breaches, individuals have had to pay out of pocket for identity monitoring services or fraudulent charges that are requested without their permission. Individuals may have noticed suspicious credit card charges, unauthorized banking activity, disrupted medical care, or medical appointments requested in their name without their consent.
Are you or have you been an Oregon Anesthesiology patient who has received a data breach notification letter in the past year?
