Westinghouse WGen20000c Generator Shutdown Investigation

Migliaccio & Rathod LLP is investigating reports of potential sensor and control-system failures affecting Westinghouse WGen20000c generators.

The Westinghouse WGen20000c is a large portable generator marketed for applications including home backup power. Owners reasonably expect a generator of this type to remain operational when needed, particularly during extended utility outages.

A recent detailed complaint describes a Westinghouse WGen20000c that allegedly failed after fewer than three hours of operation. According to the report, repair attempts involved replacement of the CO sensor, oil-pressure sensor, oil protector, and entire control-panel assembly, yet the generator remained unreliable and an authorized repair facility ultimately recommended replacement of the unit. Migliaccio & Rathod is investigating whether other Westinghouse WGen20000c owners have experienced similar repeated sensor, controller, or shutdown failures that cannot be corrected through ordinary component replacement.

Owners May Have Experienced:

  • A generator shutting down after relatively little operating time;
  • Repeated failure to start or remain running;
  • CO or oil-related sensor warnings;
  • Replacement of multiple sensors without resolving the problem;
  • Replacement of the control panel or other electronics;
  • An authorized repair facility recommending generator replacement; or
  • Extended periods without a working backup generator.

Potential Claims May Include:

  • Defective sensors or control systems;
  • Defective manufacturing;
  • Breach of express or implied warranties;
  • Failure to provide an effective repair;
  • Loss of use or diminished product value; and
  • Violations of applicable consumer-protection laws.

Signs You May Be Affected:

  • You own a Westinghouse WGen20000c;
  • Your generator failed after relatively few operating hours;
  • Multiple sensors or control components have been replaced;
  • Repairs did not permanently correct the shutdown problem;
  • Your control-panel assembly required replacement; or
  • Westinghouse or an authorized repair facility recommended replacing the generator.
