Migliaccio & Rathod LLP is investigating reports that certain Westinghouse iGen11000DFc generators may experience repeated carbon monoxide sensor shutdowns during outdoor operation, including during humid or stormy weather.
The Westinghouse iGen11000DFc uses a carbon monoxide detection system designed to automatically shut down the generator if potentially dangerous CO levels are detected. This is an important safety feature. However, owners have reported CO-related shutdowns even when generators were being operated outdoors in locations where they had previously operated without similar problems.
One detailed report describes an Westinghouse iGen11000DFc operating normally during one night of use but repeatedly shutting down with its CO indicator during the following humid and stormy night. Another owner reportedly experienced similar shutdowns in a location previously used for hundreds of hours of generator operation. Pasted markdown
Migliaccio & Rathod is investigating whether humidity, weather conditions, sensor calibration, or a defective CO-system component may cause false shutdowns in certain iGen11000DFc generators.
Owners May Have Experienced:
- CO-related shutdowns while the generator was outdoors;
- Repeated shutdowns during humid, rainy, or stormy weather;
- A generator that previously operated normally in the same location;
- CO warnings despite following outdoor-placement requirements;
- Replacement or servicing of the CO sensor; or
- Loss of generator power during an outage or severe-weather event.
Potential Claims May Include:
- Defective CO monitoring components;
- Defective sensor calibration;
- Breach of express or implied warranties;
- Failure to provide an effective repair;
- Loss of use or diminished product value; and
- Violations of applicable consumer-protection laws.
Signs You May Be Affected:
- You own a Westinghouse iGen11000DFc;
- Your generator shuts down with a CO indication while outdoors;
- Shutdowns occur particularly during humid or stormy conditions;
- The generator previously operated normally in the same location;
- Your CO sensor or related components required service; or
- The shutdown prevented you from obtaining backup power.
