Migliaccio & Rathod LLP is investigating reports that certain Polaris RANGER XD 1500 side-by-side vehicles may develop a recurring clunk, knock, or excessive movement in the rear driveline, axle, driveshaft, hub, or differential area.
The Polaris RANGER XD 1500 is a premium utility side-by-side built around Polaris STEELDRIVE transmission and drivetrain system. Polaris has specifically marketed the system using representations such as “Smooth, Precise Control,” “Maximum Durability,” and “Effortless Shifting, Quiet Operation.”
Some owners, however, have reported noticeable driveline clunking developing in their machines, including problems that returned after dealers attempted repairs.
Consumers Report:
- a loud clunk, knock, or metallic sound from the rear driveline;
- excessive movement or play in the axle or driveshaft;
- noises when accelerating, decelerating, shifting, or changing direction;
- dealers applying thread-locking compound as a repair;
- the clunk temporarily disappearing and later returning;
- axle, hub, yoke, or other driveline components being replaced;
- differential backlash being adjusted;
- metal appearing in differential oil; and
- recurring problems despite dealership service.
Owners have also reported dealer references to a Polaris communication identified as R-24-09-01 concerning a clunk in the area where the rear driveshaft or yoke interfaces with the rear hub or differential.
Migliaccio & Rathod is investigating whether affected Polaris RANGER XD 1500 vehicles share a common mechanical problem and whether the manufacturer’s repairs adequately resolve it.
