Migliaccio & Rathod LLP is investigating reports that certain Masterbuilt Gravity Series grills and smokers may experience premature failures of their built-in safety switches, causing the fan to stop working and leaving consumers unable to properly operate their grills.
The investigation is focused on Masterbuilt Gravity Series 560, 800, 900, and 1050 Gen-1 models. These grills use switches at the hopper lid and ash door as part of their safety system. The switches are designed to stop the fan when those areas are opened.
Some owners, however, have reported that these switches can stick, fail, or develop wiring problems, causing the grill’s fan to stop even when the hopper and ash door are properly closed. Masterbuilt Gravity Series’ own troubleshooting materials direct consumers experiencing certain fan problems to inspect, clean, test, or replace these switches.
Consumers Report:
- the grill fan unexpectedly stopping during cooking;
- hopper-lid or ash-door switches sticking or failing;
- the grill refusing to operate even though its doors are properly closed;
- Masterbuilt sending replacement safety switches;
- switch wiring or connectors becoming brittle or failing;
- recurring fan problems after troubleshooting or repairs; and
- feeling forced to consider bypassing the switches just to make the grill work.
The problem may be particularly concerning because these switches are not merely convenience features—they are part of the grill’s built-in safety system. Consumers should not have to choose between an unusable grill and disabling a safety feature in order to continue using a product they purchased.
Migliaccio & Rathod is investigating whether certain Masterbuilt Gravity Series grills were sold with safety switches or related wiring that may fail prematurely and whether affected consumers received an adequate repair.
Potential Claims May Include:
- defective safety-switch components;
- defective design;
- breach of express or implied warranty;
- failure to provide an effective repair;
- failure to adequately disclose a recurring safety-switch problem; and
- unfair or deceptive trade practices.
Signs You May Be Affected:
- You own or previously owned a Masterbuilt Gravity Series 560, 800, 900, or 1050 Gen-1 grill;
- your fan stopped operating even though the hopper and ash door were properly closed;
- troubleshooting identified a hopper-lid or ash-door safety switch;
- Masterbuilt sent you one or more replacement switches;
- you experienced repeated switch or wiring failures; or
- you bypassed or considered bypassing a safety switch because your grill would otherwise not operate.
