Migliaccio & Rathod LLP is investigating whether certain Frigidaire induction ranges and cooktops may be advertised with cooking zones that are substantially larger than the actual effective induction heating area underneath the glass surface.
Consumers purchasing induction ranges may rely on the advertised diameter of a cooking zone when deciding what size cookware the range can evenly heat.
However, some Frigidaire owners have reported that the marked or advertised burner area appears substantially larger than the area that actually produces meaningful heat.
For example, one reported owner described an approximately 8-inch advertised cooking zone producing an effective heated area closer to 4 inches. Another consumer reported measuring an approximately 6-inch heated footprint inside an advertised 8.5-inch zone.
Consumers Report:
- large pans heating mainly in a small central area;
- food cooking unevenly across cookware placed on an advertised larger burner;
- substantial differences between the marked burner circle and the actual heated area;
- difficulty browning or cooking food evenly in larger pans;
- discovering that the induction coil may be materially smaller than expected; and
- dissatisfaction after purchasing the range in reliance on advertised cooking-zone dimensions.
Why Cooking Zone Size Matters
Induction cooking works by creating a magnetic field underneath compatible cookware.
A consumer seeing an advertised 8-inch or 8.3-inch cooking zone may reasonably expect that appropriately sized cookware will receive relatively even induction heating across a similar area.
If a materially smaller induction coil is installed beneath a much larger marked or advertised cooking zone, consumers may receive substantially different performance from what they expected when choosing the appliance.
What We Are Investigating
Migliaccio & Rathod LLP is investigating:
- the actual physical diameter of induction coils used in affected models;
- the effective magnetic and thermal footprint of each cooking zone;
- how Frigidaire defines advertised “element” or “cooking zone” size;
- whether consumers are clearly told that the physical coil may be substantially smaller;
- whether larger cookware can be evenly heated as consumers reasonably expect; and
- whether consumers paid a premium based on materially misleading cooking-zone specifications.
The precise marketing language is important. The investigation seeks to determine whether Frigidaire’s advertised zone dimensions describe an actual heating area or instead a general cookware-placement area that consumers may misunderstand.
Potential Claims May Include:
- false or misleading advertising;
- deceptive trade practices;
- breach of express warranty;
- breach of implied warranty;
- benefit-of-the-bargain damages; and
- claims based on materially misleading product specifications.
