Migliaccio & Rathod LLP is investigating reports that certain GAF Timberline HDZ® shingles may develop premature black streaking, algae discoloration, or staining despite being marketed as providing long-term algae resistance.
Certain GAF Timberline HDZ shingles are marketed with StainGuard® or StainGuard Plus™ technology and advertised as providing extended protection against algae-related roof staining. However, some homeowners have reported widespread black streaking or discoloration substantially earlier than expected. This investigation concerns alleged failures of the shingles’ algae-resistance representations and warranty remedies, and is separate from investigations involving shingle slippage, delamination, adhesive failure, or roof leaks.
Reported Problems with GAF Timberline HDZ Algae Protection
Consumers have reported experiencing:
- premature black streaking on relatively new roofs;
- algae discoloration despite algae-resistant marketing;
- widespread roof staining affecting curb appeal;
- warranty remedies that allegedly do not restore the roof’s original appearance;
- expensive roof cleaning or replacement; and
- dissatisfaction with warranty claim outcomes.
