Dordt University Data Breach Investigation

data breach

Migliaccio & Rathod LLP is investigating the Dordt University data breach that impacted 34,251 individuals, compromising significant personal information.

Between April 21, 2024, and May 16, 2024, an unknown actor accessed Dordt University’s network. Dordt University conducted a review and investigation of the potentially affected records and systems. Through that subsequent investigation, Dordt University learned on June 19, 2025, that that hackers were able to compromise a significant amount of personal information. Dordt University did not notify affected individuals of the data breach until July 11, 2025, well over a year from when the breach occurred. The compromised information includes a variety of highly sensitive details including:

  • First and Last name, with one or more of the following:
  • Date of birth,
  • Account number,
  • Routing number,
  • Security code,
  • Social Security number,
  • Driver’s license number,
  • Username and password,
  • Health insurance information, and
  • Medical information

The Dordt University Data Breach Investigation

Dordt University informed the Maine State Attorney General’s office of the breach, where a copy of the consumer notification letter can be found. Unredacted information, however, can be found on Dordt University’s website, available here. All of the information stolen is likely valuable and dangerous to affected victims. As is likely to be the case with the Dordt University data breach, as in previous data breaches, victims of data theft have noticed identity theft attempts ranging from fraudulent charges on bank accounts or credit cards, to unauthorized credit card applications, to medical services or government services ordered in their name, to their information being posted on the dark web, to a massive uptick in the number of spam text messages, calls and emails received.
